How to use Needle Threader

Some may scoff at the idea of a needle threader as the most essential sewing tool of all – but I would agree. I cannot start any kind of sewing without this small, but super useful tool that helps to thread a needle fast and before I get any furious.

Is there any sewing without some sort of a needle and is there a faster needle threading, with out this threader? Especially for those who have long sight (not seeing near things). Even just a bit of power in the eye is enough to put you on an never-ending loop of trying to get the thread through the eye – again and again, till you renounce sewing and everything that even starts with the word sew.

Other than the usual use of threading hand stitching and embroidery needles, it is useful in threading sewing machine needles as well. Let us see how it is done.

How does the needle threader work

A needle threader in any form would have a thin metal thingy on one end, which penetrates through the eye of your needle. Do that.

insert the needle threader end inside the eye of the needle

Then the thread is taken up through the space in the threader.

insert the thread through the loop of the threader

When you pull out the threader out of the needle eye, the thread automatically comes out with it.

Tada – the thread is inside the eye before you know it.

Automatic needle threader on the sewing machine

Nowadays all home sewing machines come equipped with a needle threader.

For me, it is almost always a hit-or-miss and mostly a miss when  I try to use the sewing machine needle threader. You may have a better experience. So I prefer to use the manual needle threader on sewing machine too.

This needle threading method can be used in lieu of the automatic threaders in your sewing machine.

But you have to be careful about one thing – If your machine needle is to be threaded from the left side, the threader should be inserted through the eye of the needle from the right side.

Otherwise, the machine needle will be threaded wrongly, and you will not be able to sew with it. Threading the sewing machine correctly is a very important element in successful sewing – one mis-step, and you are stuck.

How to use the Needle threader on your sewing machine

If your sewing machine is threaded from the front to the back, insert the threader from the back to the front, and then insert the thread through the loop on the threader.

If needle is to be threaded from left to right, insert threader from right to left

Thread the thread through the loop.

Take the threader out, and out comes your thread too through the eye of the needle.

So, I would say a Needle threader is the easiest way to thread a needle. You can find other ways to thread a needle here.

I always use a needle threader. I’m useless without it. Also, I have bad eyesight with my AMD

I couldn’t agree with you more! I also use this neat little gadget to repair hitches in fabric – sooo much easier than using a needle. I’d love to hear any other uses from others on this as I can imagine there are many.
