How to sew a folded cuff band to a sleeve

A sleeve cuff is a great hem finish for a sleeve as it gives the sleeve a clean and polished look. You can either leave it as it is or fold it and wear it, make it in the same fabric as the sleeve or use a contrasting fabric for a more arresting look.

Cut out fabric for the cuff. It should be double the depth of the cuff.

Fold it so that the right side of the fabric is inside. Align the edges.

Fold the seam allowance to the inside as in the picture below.

Sew it there in place.

Now fold the fabric from the bottom edge up, aligning the stitching line.

Fold it and pin in place.

Stitch just outside of the stitching.

This is the new stitching line.

Turn it rightside out and you have your sleeve cuff.

The inside also looks seamless.

Make an overlapping sleeve cuff

For this cuff, cut the cuff fabric 1.5 inches more than the normal cuff.

Cut one side at an angle. If you keep both the edges together, you can cut it symmetrical and identical.

Sew the side edges.

Turn it rightside out.

Keep the cuff over the sleeve edge.

Pin in place.

Sew the cuff to the sleeve edge.
