A woven rose stitch, I would say is the easiest and the prettiest embroidery stitch. Get a needle that will take the thread you have through the eye and make some 5 or so stitches and some easy weaving and you have a very pretty flower embroidered on your hands.
Draw a small circle on the fabric in the size of the rose you want. You can use coins or buttons or circle templates to draw the circles or just draw them freehand.
Inside this circle, mark five evenly spaced points around the edge. Mark straight lines from these points to the center of the circle. These lines form the foundation of your rose -try to make them evenly spaced inside the circle and exactly from a center point for a symmetrical looking rose.
Actually there is no hard rule that it should be 5 spokes ; infact if the woven rose is to be made on a clothing, I would increase the spokes. Then the rose wouldnot unravel during washing or wearing. Just ensure that odd number of spokes are made.
Make straight stitches along the spokes.
Here is a video on how to do that:
Bring up the needle from the center of the cirlce and Start weaving under and over the spokes, one by one around the circle.
Continue alternating between going over and under the spokes, till you reach the outer edge of the straight stitches and you run out of space on the spokes. When the rose shape has formed, bring the needle down and tie a knot to finish.
You can change the color of the thread in between or use variegated thread for a nice textured effect.
Add other embellishments like beads and sequins
Check out how to sew the embroidery like this on a neckline.
Use textured yarn like a chenille yarn or ribbons or even rolled fabric strips to make these roses into textured marvels.
Infact, just like texture, the number of thread you use to make them can also change the look of your roses. This is a rose being done with two strands of embroidery floss.
To finally look like this:
Make them in contrasting colors for a striking look.
